Postpartum Bracelet Project
After a pregnancy, patients may still be at risk for severe health complications. The three leading causes of maternal mortality in Alabama are infection, cardiovascular conditions, and hemorrhage. According to the Alabama Maternal Mortality Review Committee, more than 60% of all pregnancy-related and pregnancy-associated deaths from 2018-2019 were preventable.
The ALPQC is partnering with 8 hospitals to pilot a program that will provide each postpartum patient with a bracelet to help doctors, nurses, and first responders recognize potential post-pregnancy health conditions in the event of a medical emergency. Postpartum patients are encouraged to wear the bracelet for at least 6 weeks for their health and safety. Our goal is to prevent maternal deaths through education, recognition, and early intervention.
